Program description:

When used properly, certain measures of personality have a fairly strong relationship with future workplace success. But using the wrong type of measure or using the right type of measure incorrectly can introduce bias and error into the selection process.

This 1 hour course will provide participants with:

  • An overview of the two most commonly used personality inventories and the research on their relationship with performance
  • The potential problems with using personality measures in the selection process, including alternative influences on workplace success
  • Recommendations for using personality fairly and effectively
  • A sample questionnaire and scoring instructions

Course information:

This is a 1 hour online program. You can study at your own pace but still have access to the instructor to ask questions, interact with your fellow students and more. All participants will be required to take an online test to receive their certificate of completion. You will have one week to complete the materials.

To participate in this course you will need Internet access and the ability to view youtube style videos. The course will work on home computers and tablets such as the iPad.

About the instructor:

Brittany Shoots-ReinhardtDr. Brittany Shoots-Reinhard has a Ph.D. in Social Psychology with a focus on attitudes, persuasion, judgment and decision making, goals and motivation, and personality. Broadly speaking, her research involved determining how people’s thoughts, particularly their beliefs about their thoughts, influenced their judgments and behavior. Her dissertation involved measuring people’s certainty in their responses to personality assessments. She is a specialist in communications and promotional strategy, a freelance communications, marketing and PR consultant, and has over seven years’ experience teaching undergraduate psychology. She has also has practical industry experience working for humanist non-profit Foundation Beyond Belief as the director of special projects and more recently as the Beyond Belief Network coordinator, supporting the volunteering efforts of humanist groups nationwide.
